Through My Eyes
*
With holiday celebrations and resting I haven't yet been able to work on the sculpture of Tara Drolma except to continue to keep the clay moist. I thought we could watch another video however! This one is by Yanchen Khado. We can see her turning prayer mani wheels around a group of great Chorten stupas! The shelter for the mani wheels is of modern steel construction and looks rather sturdy.
It illustrates that there is modernization...and then there is modernization that supports the Tibetan life, one of existing in harmony with the world and with the actual nature of existence. The CCP would build a rocket launcher and high rises- Tibetans would build a stronger shelter for their mani wheels.
As a goal in and of itself, in the growth of many nations, modernization leads to dislocation between human beings and their natural world as thousands of years of cultural wisdom is discarded in favor of technology for it's own sake. At best people are left uprooted and uncomfortable with their place in the world. Then they must constantly seek out new possessions and experience at a hectic pace to replace the sense of belonging they once had. At worst they live lives enmired in self destructive habits such as drug and alcohol addiction in a futile effort to escape a life where they do not have a sense of their purpose in their world.
Also in the Tibetan Buddhist view the material world is all illusory in nature so spending all one's time involved with materialism is a waste of a precious human life that could have been spent learning to understand the way things really are. So there is much at stake in resisting the imposed modernization of the CCP in Tibet. Tibetans must guide the modernization process themselves and decide it's role in their lives. There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
