Through My Eyes
*
We're in our coracle along the shore of Tashi Tso the abode of O Tashi Pema Tsepel on our way to the khorlam path! Our Footprint Tibet handbook doesn't say anything about this deity. I haven't yet found any additional descriptions elsewhere. Still though, we know something of this deity. The name Pema suggests the deity is probably a Goddess. She must be compassionate for this is Tibet! In the poem I describe the prostration which may be actually be done a bit differently but the basic concept is that the pilgrim is requesting help from the deity so that the mind will be able to see past the obscurations created in prior incarnations by actions of the body, heart, and speech that are interfering with perceiving the actual nature of existence. Not far away near the Yalong Dza chu is Beri Gonpa. Within the citadel is a Gelukpa monastery that was once a Bonpo temple. The ruins of Beri castle are also there and the Kablung monastery of the Nyingma lineage. In the earlier part of the century Beri was occupied by the Chinese who were pushed back by Dargye Gonpa along with the Tibetans at Derge. So this area was first under the control of the Bonpo, then the unifying Tibetan Kings and Queens until the time of Langdharma, then the Bonpo Kings and Queens, then the Trehor Mongol rulers, then the Chinese, then Tibetans, and now the Chinese Government again. The Horko plain must have seen a lot of wars. There may be suld souls still lost and angry in this area although the shamanic practices of the pilgrims here with the help of O Tashi Pema Tsepel probably help to create peace here. A lot of work even for a Goddess and centuries of pilgrims to be sure! There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
