Through My Eyes
*
We're in our coracle on the Zhara Yutso having headed over the Mejesumdo highlands and the Nedreheka la! Above us the Zhara Yutso continues it's towering rise above for many thousands of feet since it's over 5820 meters, or a bit over nineteen thousand feet. Two as one we've fixed this in the poem along with the other usual mistakes. I'd switched the numbers around and somehow converted 5280 meters instead of 5820. It's fairly high though! The Precious Snow mountain, Mt Kailas Gang Rinpoche is about 6658 meters 22,000 feet and Mt Everest Mt Jomolangma is 8848 meters 29,000 feet for comparison. Our Footprint Tibet handbook indicates that it's considered one of the 25 Yeshe Tsogyel Padmasambhava sacred sites in Tibet and represents the body aspect of the Buddha mind. I haven't figured out what that means yet! Anyway, on the southwest side there are 15 medicinal springs. We remember the Dalai Lama described hot water in his book as being the "first remedy of the Tibetan medical system". This makes sense since the Tibetan climate is quite dry for the most part! More water in the body also tends to make the effects of altitude sickness less severe. Hence the popularity of butter tea! They probably also have dissolved minerals and other healing substances in them. Then too they would be imbued with the sacred healing power of the place itself. It is sacred to the ancient Bon tradition as well as Buddhism. It was regarded as the abode of one of the offspring of Nyenchen Tanglha originally or the actual deity itself . Then it became a place of Yeshe Tsoygyel Padmasambhava. Zhara Yutso is on the northeast side. There are many caves around Zhara Yutso which became associated with Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje. I haven't been able to find much about him except that he, like Patrul Rinpoche was an entirely unconventional yogin! Like many of the master practitioners of the day his name in stories might change depending upon what story was being told or where it was being told. In general the Tibetan system for giving names is different; we can learn of this later. We may also find some stories of him! There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
