Through My Eyes
*
We're resting at the Shakya Tubpa Podrang of the Litang Chode! We've been going a bit more slowly in our travelling in part because of we've been doing a lot of work on gang rinpoche ngah tso gi as you know well! I thought it was a good time to spend more time with some of the wrathful and meditational deities of the Geluk lineage many of whom are shared by the other lineages. Anyway, our Footprint Tibet handbook indicates that it was built on the very site where the original temple was built in 1580. The energy is certainly particularly benign because the site was probably an energetically favorable one to start and would have been enhanced by the ways in which the Litang Chode was designed by the advanced practitioners involved in it's construction. There also would have been all the mantras and chants over the centuries that certainly would have had an effect! Actually I didn't mention in the poem but the paintings of Shakyamuni Buddha, Tsongkapha and Tara were each surrounded by what our Footprint Tibet handbook describes as 1000 identical icons. More of the shamanic mantric power! In any case it must have taken remarkable skill to create this many identically. It is wonderful to know that at least some of the incredible artistry survived the Chinese government's persecution. I tried to give a sense of the Buddhist tradition and the way the Buddha was said to have spoken in his incarnation as Shakayamuni. It is very often indicated by advanced practitioners of all the lineages that it is important to think about and meditate upon the tenets rather than believe them as presented without examination. It is also considered important not to expound upon them to those unwilling or unprepared for them because it creates negativity. There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
