Through My Eyes
*
We're resting in the valley of the Rong chu after having made our way over Serkhyim La! Our Footprint Tibet handbook indicates that it has has a lot of what are known as switchbacks. The path reverses direction with sharp turns to slow the movement down the steep gradient. You may already know of these! From here we can see Namchak Barwa and Gyala Pelri towering over the region which we know already as the lower Kongpo where the Brahmaputra flows. I've mentioned it before but thought I'd describe it again in the poem. The Rong chu is described as flowering. The flowers are rhododendhrons! There may be many other species there but the account I found describes dense shoulder high growth of brillliant dark red flowers. There were also the tree type species mentioned which were over ten feet tall and almost a foot thick at the trunk! Not as big as the 100 foot species we've already seen elsewhere in the valleys of the Chuzi gangdruk but still very wondrous! Most likely there are many valuable medicinal herbs here. Anyway this is all part of a region known as the Pome or lower Powo region. I haven't drawn in all of the Rong chu ; I will a bit later when we've figured out the rest of the region. There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
