( We read of the preparation of shamanic tools!)

" Mongolian and Siberian traditions have certain tools that almost all shamans use, but shamans are also quite flexible in using things from other cultures as their spirits direct them- they will even use certain natural artifacts such as antlers, sticks, rocks and shells if the spirits direct them to do so. Shamans have readily adapted Tibetan bells and cymbals, Russian cowbells, and-now that there is some contact between America and Siberia-certain Native American attributes such as rattles, prayer sticks, and dream catchers, although the meaning of these things to a Siberian shamans may well differ from their significance in the culture they came from. Thus, if you have shamanic equipment that is not part of the traditional attributes of Mongolian and Siberian shamans, you can used them in the context of rituals and magical actions of those traditions according to how your shamanic spirits advise you.
Intention and communication with the spirits play significant  roles in preparing shamanic tools for use. In the nine-degree system of Buryat initiation, each degree has certain shamanic tools or attributes specific to it. Even though the shaman  may make use of these things before she is initiated into the degree to which they belong, the initiation, among other things, will entail making contact with the ezen spirits of the tools specific to the degree and gaining deeper knowledge of their nature and magical uses.  Even if you do not follow this tradition, the essential teaching in this practice is still useful. First, when you start using a shamanic tool, that which makes it effective is your intention,, united with the intention and power of your helper spirits. Results are often quite dramatic. The next step, which is addressed in the initiation rituals , is to journey or otherwise find a way to meet the ezen spirit of each of your shamanic tools so that you will know their character and allow them to teach you how to use them more effectively. For instance, the awakening  of the drum ritual will dramatically increase the power of a drum; such a ritual may be done for every one of your shamanic tools.  This is just another reflection of true shamanic power as directly related to the shaman's ability to communicate with the various spirits with which she needs to interact in certain situations. the spirits will tell you how to use them; do not be limited by what I or anybody else says about how your shamanic equipment will bring the most power and blessing to your work!"
( In the Buryat tradition individual attunement and intention are very important!)  I promise to add more tomorrow...

( Tahshi Deleh, gentle beautiful one!  Kehrahng kusu debo yinpeh? I got more done on the outside of the studio. Kathy helped me move the boards for the stairs and I've gotten one of them measured and cut. I scythed some more mulch and then went up to the Grove to take down the beetle traps and check on the trees.  I tried to use the sound recording software but it wasn't working again! I'll have to struggle with it a bit. I'll add our wildflowers so we can visit them again and then rest for now.
And so, as always we'll continue two as one on  to tomorrow
