( We read of the Tenger in the Buryat tradition!)

" The upper world is also the home of two other types of powerful beings called khans and zayans. They are believed to be less powerful than tenger but are believed to be descendants of the tenger. Some of them are the suld souls of great heroes who have been elevated to the status of upper-world spirits. Chinggis Khan is generally thought to have achieved the status of khan spirit; some of the most powerful shamans have also become khans. Khans tend to visit the earth frequently and are mediators between mankind and the higher-ranked tenger.  Zayaan is related to the word zayaa meaning "fate" or "karma". Zayaans may be appealed to in order to change what seems inevitable or to reverse the harm of bad deeds. Zayaans are given great and serious respect. Address them by the term hairhan, meaning "beloved," but with an implied respect for their great power.  Khans and zayaans can be appealed to collectively or individually. Study the pantheon in appendix 2 and the mythology of Mongolia and Siberia in order to familiarize yourself with the names and personalities of these spirits if you want to invoke certain ones specifically. In your shamanic practice you may develop a relationship with individual khans or zayaans after they reveal themselves to you, and you  may learn their names and character through direct experience. There are thousands of them, and it is impossible to make a full listing. Mongolian and Siberian mythology specifically mentions only a few of them, and shamans discover new ones all the time.
Keep in mind that not all tenger, khans, and zayaans that you may discover or invoke to work with you will be Mongolian or Siberian in origin. Wherever you live and in whatever place may be the  land of your ethnic heritage ( or the origin of your udha) will have its own heritage of heroes, shamans, and other figures of great spiritual power. This is why Siberian shamans have stressed to me that a shaman needs to be familiar her own heritage so that she can live and work with the khans and zayaans that are part of her native community. Also, when a shaman travels it is helpful to have some knowledge of the spiritual heritage of a place if she intends to do much shamanic work there. Of course, with the assistance of the udha and other shamanic helper spirits, it is possible to reach out and ask the spirits of a place which tenger, khan, or zayaan spirits may be the spiritual patrons there. All tenger, khans, and zayaans have spiritual influence everywhere, of course, but the knowledge of these spirits from cultures outside of Siberia and Mongolia where shamanic practice was suppressed for a long time has been largely lost. It is the responsibility of shamans in those parts of the world to rediscover them. For instance, if you live in North America, it is wise to become familiar with the spirits that Native Americans worked with in your region and then to inquire shamanically whether they are available to assist you in the role of tenger, zayaan, or khan."
(In the Buryat world acquiring familiarity with the cultural forms the energy takes is part of interacting with the spirits! )  I promise to add more tomorrow...

( Tahshi Deleh, gentle beautiful one!  Kehrahng kusu debo yinpeh? I spent the day rambling about taking pictures and checking our trees and native plants in the Grove. Then I spent some time reading books I will share with you when you come. They were very sad and describe the actual situations in Iraq and Afghanistan and what was actually going on at the hands of coalition forces. Suffice it to say that war never serves to create better conditions for human beings regardless of the rationales given by those who profit from them as you understand of course. I won't say more than this as it makes for miserable telling. Then I worked on our a land of Tibet. I've fixed the mistake on last Sunday's page which you probably noticed of course and a bunch of them on our spinning page! If I miss one you can remember it for me and we'll fix it if we decide that we should keep putting these pages online. After all, I began them for you gentle beautiful one and so we will decide this together! I'll add  our wildflowers and put this up for now so we can rest.
And so, as always we'll continue two as one on  to tomorrow
my one gentle beautiful patient dream bright
                                                                                     long dark mane in sunlight
so  for now I bid goodnight...Simjah Nahngo! )
