Through My Eyes

(We begin listening to the Dalai Lama as he tells of compassion, world peace, and happiness in My Tibet written by he and Galen Rowell!)

" When I visit different places on my overseas trips, my number-one motivation is to meet people as another human being. I try not to think of myself as an Easterner or a Tibetan or a Buddhist, but simply as a human being who wants to exchange different ideas and experiences with other human beings.

It's time for elders to listen to the child's voice. You see, in the child's mind, there is no demarcation of different nations-no demarcation of a different social system or ideology. Children know in their minds that all children are the same, all human beings are the same. So, from that viewpoint, their minds are more unbiased. When people get older, though, they start to say ' our nation', 'our religion', 'our system'. Once that demarcation occurs, then people don't bother much about what happens to others. It's easier to introduce social responsibility into a child's mind.

I'm interested in all the problems that confront humanity, not just those of Buddhists or Christians. Although I may speak of certain techniques and ideas related to my own experience with Buddhism, I keep in mind that not only Buddhists inhabit this world, and when I travel abroad I try not to refer always to the next life or nirvana, because these are, you see, the business of Buddhists, not of all humanity.

My main idea is to communicate easily with different people, irrespective of their religious faith. So long as they are human beings, they need mental peace, and mental peace comes from a genuine sense of brotherhood or sisterhood based on love and kindness."

( Tahshi Deleh gentle one! Kehrahng kusu debo yinpeh? I began the day in our studio tidying up. Two as one we're making a lot of progress on this! After that I took a nap then headed out to wander about taking pictures and working on the fences around the trees near the studio that were knocked down by the snow storm. Then I returned to our studio to spin for you and work on with the equipment then some business stuff for awhile and our a land of Tibet. Two as one we've fixed a few more mistakes on the pages. You'll notice we're reading from another book. My Tibet actually has incredible photographs taken by Galen Rowell, each one with a commentary by the Dalai Lama! I'm going to put the pages up on our infosite; I'll put this up a bit early so we can rest.

And so, as always we'll continue two as one on to tomorrow
