( We continue to read of the origin of shamanic helper spirits in the Buryat tradition!)

"When illness was introduced into the human population in order to protect balance, the effects were too drastic (let me remind you that the eastern tenger are the controllers of destructive forces and magic, not intrinsically hostile to life). This having happened, the sky spirits met in the Pleiades in order to determine what to do about the future of mankind because people were dying off too quickly. They decided to send Eagle down to earth to become the first shaman, but when he arrived he could not communicate with humans because he could not speak man's language. He then found a Buryat girl sleeping under a tree. He mated with her and she became pregnant. Like all offspring of the sky spirits, their child grew up unusually quickly and became the self-taught shaman Mergen Hara, the first black shaman ( it is generally believed tradition is older than the white tradition). He was so powerful that he could bring the dead back to life. The sky spirits punished him because his powers were too great and he abused them.

Later in the very ancient history of mankind, another catastrophe took place. The sky spirits of the east and west, who were related to each other and who had lived in balance, got into a war with each other. The result of this war was that extremely poisonous and dangerous things fell down to earth( this reminds me of nuclear winter) and turned the sky dark; made the air poisonous; dried up or polluted all of the water; and caused the plants, animals, and humans to die off to the point of extinction. When the sky spirits sent Abai Geser to earth, at the time of his initiation he summoned thirty-three sons of the sky spirits as his warriors to aid him in cleansing the earth of the contamination that threatened living things. When his work was done, he returned to the sky. The thirty-three warriors, however, settled down into the Sayan Mountains to be protectors of living things and helpers of shamans. In my own lineage we work with these spirits, and I have seen these awesome beings with my own eyes. This set the precedent for the relationship between the sky and the Sayan mountains."

(In the Buryat world the misuse of spiritual power resulted in catastrophic effects upon the physical world.) I promise to add more tomorrow...

( Tahshi Deleh, gentle beautiful one! Kehrahng kusu debo yinpeh? I headed up to the Grove this morning to check on the trees and native plants then wandered about for awhile taking pictures. With the snow melting the stream is somewhat higher now so I needed chest waders again! It was a lot easier walking because the snow's surface was hard enough to walk on. Then I returned to our studio to work on your loom and on our a land of Tibet. It's a bit late now so I'll add our wildflowers then put this up so we can rest.

And so, as always we'll continue two as one on to tomorrow

my one gentle beautiful patient dream bright
