A glimpse to
whence
the leading light of my long day
slight gentle beautiful determined bright one
has made her way
she firmly alone firmly herself
leaving a silent bright affirmation
beneath the open sky
to quietly remind me
that not so far away
for she I we two
our warm and bright future day
and to her then to say to tell
of the way from Tongtaling
across the Yangtze Dri chu
to whence the Gyeltang chu
flows through its plain
of river nourished earth
Upon us falls a fleeting shadow
a being above us graceful flies
to where the waves
on a placid lake
flicker beneath the mountain light
it's a black necked crane beautiful one
on its way to Napa lake
as it has for millenia beyond count
Beneath it the stir and sound
herds of yak wander about
amid the grass and sedge
that grow from the fertile earth
and the fires
among the tents of nomads
bustling with activity
flicker and flare in the wind
that comes over it's shores
and stirs the windmills
here and there
that slowly turn about
Above it's shores
amid the grass
glimpses of brilliant blue
poppy flowers that sway
in the breeze
their petals as though
the very sky had showered
bits of colored light upon the land
as a generous gift to beings
Many other gifts are here
plants of seven thousand kinds
many within their essence
with healing power imbued
to sustain Tibetans
and the other peoples that came
the Naxi the Lisu the Yi the Bai the Pumi
the Han Chinese
Here have made their way
to Gyeltang where
silk and cotton from India
and bricks of tea
were brought in exchange
for the creations of Tibet
and horses thundered
across the fields in festivals grand
year upon year though
the centuries
A quiet patient time apart
even when not seen
still gentle heart's vision
And so, we share this time together
slight gentle one
as we rest easy
as our plan grows
Lotus blossoms rest
upon the window sill
and so we wait
two as one
we our effort
real and lasting
slight gentle
beautiful one
