Through My Eyes

Saturday February 11

(We continue listening to the Dalai Lama as he tells of compassion, world peace, and happiness in My Tibet  written by he and Galen Rowell!)

"  The thing that most easily destroys mental peace is hatred. Once hatred and anger come out, peace of mind disappears automatically. Therefore, the real enemy is also anger within ourselves. Strong anger pushes along hatred, but many people feel that anger is a source of energy for them. In some aspects this may be true. When anger comes, it can create unusual energy along with it. But this is the type of energy that can destroy all happines and destroy world peace. Energy that brings about  violent anger is ususally  very blind. It may give you the power to do something that you cannot ordinarily do, such as lift a car or a tree at the scene of an accident, but more often energy born of anger brings disaster upon you.
The same powerful energy you feel with anger can be used in another way. Analyze this situation. It may indicate that you need some kind of strong counteraction in order to achieve positive result. To achieve this, you need clear reasoning and understanding of the realities involved. Then you can divert  that energy and use it with far less danger of making the wrong decision. "

( The alternative to anger. I promise to add more tomorrow...)
