Spinning
(please click on the picture to return)
May 23 I begin spinning.
May 24 I continue to spin for you. I've spun 3-4 yards of thread already although it's somewhat rough. I've wound it around one of the wild rose canes I use for training branches. I struggled to be patient as I did it and was pretty irritable at times but it's progressing. Here's the spindle with the first thread formed on it that I spun yesterday.
![]() May 25 I continue. I spun about 4 spans worth ( from my chest to the end of my hand). It goes well although I have a bit
of trouble with the thread unravelling again when I go to wind it on the spindle. When it's started properly the twist runs right up
the fiber and the thread forms really quickly. It's almost hypnotic watching the fibers wind themselves into thread.
May 26 And here we can see a bit more thread. This is a fair number of spans! Some of it is pretty awful looking thread though. I probably spun about one today. I got to taking off the price sticker; it was really inexpensive about $5.50! I could have made it myself though as it is very simple. I may make a lighter one so as to be able to spin the thread finer.
May 27 I spun a few feet anyway. It wasn't much but it's a bit more! I tried some of the cotton that comes in vitamin jars. It spins really well, but it falls apart and thus probably isn't a good choice.
May 28 I spun a couple more spans, perhaps a bit more. It turns that the cotton I was trying to work with last night might work but I'd have to wet my fingers while spinning to help hold the fibers together. It also helps to have a spindle that sits on the ground to keep it from pulling the fibers out. I've learned from a spinning book that Nettles were also used by Native Americans as fiber for spinning and that there are probably many plants growing here that could be used as fiber.
![]() May 29 I spun a couple more spans. It went rather well! The starting thread is basically covered with thread I have made for you!
May 30 I spun about 6 spans. I'm getting pretty fast at it. Each day the spool of thread grows. You will have plenty to work with, gentle patient one! It's rough though of course!
May 31 I continue to spin and created 4 more spans today. As you can see from the picture it's going well!
![]() June 1 I continued to spin and created a couple more spans for you.
June 2 I continue to spin for you,a couple more spans.
June 3 I've spun a couple more spans for you patient one!
June 4 Yes, once again I've spun two more spans. I did put it on to the multiflora cane because the spindle was getting to heavy
for the thread! It's been 11 days already since I began to spin for you and 6 days since our info site was set up!
June 5 I continue to devotedly spin for you and completed a couple of spans.
June 6 I've spun a couple more spans for you beautiful patient one!
June 7 Four more spans have I spun for you.
June 8 I've managed to spin 6 more spans for your loom. Wetting the fibers with water really helps. I was having an awful time before that!
June 9 I've spun 2 more spans for you gentle one. Here is yarrow just arriving in bloom to sustain us as we continue on through the time when it is hard to see. Our faith in each other will move mountains later. In a way, these are days of great power for us because the sacrifice is greater and our combined ability to help will be increased as a result( but you understand this already I think!) It will be an icon to sustain us. I will try to introduce new things here to you first, or when we
at our sacred place.
June 10 I've devotedly spun 2 more spans for you swift gentle one and for our commitment to a shared destiny. I've gotten some books of Native American art and spirituality. The art book is mostly pictures and so there isn't so much for us to read together though. I haven't yet had time to find Sarangerel's book Chosen by the Spirits for us to read together. As time goes on I'll put this page on our info site so it will always be easy for you to get to.
June 11 In firm trusting devotion I've spun two more spans for us beautiful patient one, and all the vast skies we will look upon together in our effort of the heart. The Tibetan language book should be coming in the mail any day now!
June 12 I've spun two more spans for us beautiful patient one in firm commitment to us and our effort of the heart together. It's been 20 days already! I thought I'd look up the website on the written language http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Academy/9594/tibet.html so we can start learning the written if you would like.
June 13 I've spun two more spans in quiet trusting devotion for us gentle patient one. But you know this of course, we were just looking at me!
June 14
. I could probably just say Tashi for Hi! I didn't spell Tashi Deleh right yesterday so today I've made up for it with the original Tibetan script. I've spun four more spans for you gentle one and for our weaving our shared destiny. June 15 I've spun 6 more spans for you beautiful one in quiet trusting commitment to us and our effort of the heart.
June 16 After buying more fiber, in trusting devotion I hold up two more spans I have spun for you swift beautiful one and our commitment to a shared destiny. ( It would help if I had the picture for this wouldn't it? I haven't gotten the time to take it yet! I need to create something that was once called a niddy-noddy. It is a frame that is used to wind the thread in loops and both helps to store and to measure it.)
June 17 In quiet trusting undeceived devotion I have spun two more spans for you swift beautiful gentle one so you needn't worry! And if you doubt at all, you've but to read the poem of June 8! All patiently waits.
![]() I've created our yarrow icon for this week. It will sustain us during this time when it is hard to see.
June 18 I've devotedly spun two more spans for you swift patient one and for our commitment to a shared destiny. I still haven't been able to spend the time to get some Native American writings for us to read together although you probably could recommend some!
June 19 I've spun two more spans for you beautiful patient enduring one and for our commitment to a shared destiny. It turns out my sister Kathy may have some Native American writings we can read together. I'll check over the weekend.
June 20 I've spun two more spans for you swift beautiful one in quiet trusting devotion as I will every day so you needn't worry! We have been seeing together for 234 days now, even longer really, but at least 8 months and 10 days. These are the hardest ones of course! But our prayer flag has been flying for 194 days and I spin every day as I have for the last 28 days quietly waiting. In all this time we two have grown with the flow of our intent the strong foundation for our shared destiny together as strong as any that can be created between two souls. In any case, there's little time for worry. There is much to be done even now ( I'm sure you have much to do too!)
June 21 I've spun four more spans for you gentle one and our weaving of a shared destiny. I haven't found the Native American writings yet but will soon!
June 22 I've spun 6 more spans in quiet commitment to the destiny that you and I share gentle beautiful one. Soon we will be able to listen together as I read aloud too!
June 23 Greatly heartened, I've spun two more spans for you beautiful patient enduring one as we continue on as always. I've
tried our first reading aloud too! It's been a month already since I began spinning for you!
(please click on the icon to listen along with me. I'm a bit hoarse and it's really quiet, please continue to be patient along with me. I figured the only way for me rise up to the beginning of this was to read it with you!)It's a big so it takes a few minutes. Not the easiest thing to listen along with, but it's a start! It might have been better to read Native American writings together first but since I haven't found them yet we'll start with this. It occurred to me this morning that although I say that I'm creating something for you, at this point we are actually creating it together with our shared heart and mind. And it's going rather well! June 24 I've spun a couple more spans for you gentle one for our prayer flags and our shared destiny together. I'm not sure how many spans we have, but it's quite a lot! I started work on our lotus blossoms today getting the blocks squared up so I can pencil in the drawings on them. Bit by bit our effort of the heart grows!
June 25 In quiet trusting devotion I've spun two more spans for you gentle beautiful one and our commitment to a shared destiny. And of course, I've sung the spinning rhythm song for you.
June 26 In quiet trusting devotion in our firm commitment I've spun two more spans for you beautiful patient one. I've worked on the lotus blossums a bit. They can be thought of as symbols of you and I rising up in purity and reverent freedom as we quietly create our shared vision and destiny together. We are of course two as one but strong in ourselves too!
June 27 I've spun two more spans for you and I beautiful patient one and for our firm commitment to each other in our effort of the heart.
June 28 I continue to spin and have created four more spans for you gentle one and for our commitment to a shared destiny. I still haven't had the time to find some Native American writings for you and I to read together. We may end up researching them together at this rate. You needn't be worried , all patiently waits and bit by bit our independent effort of the heart grows. It's been 242 days, just a bit over 8 months ( 8 months and 18 days!) since we began seeing together gentle one and our faith and trust in each other is strong. Our prayer flag has been flying for 202 days, 7 months and 6 days!
Let's read a bit more Tibetan language aloud together if you would like. The lumber for the staircase arrived and the boards are huge! June 29 I've spun six more spans for you slight gentle beautiful one in quiet commitment to the destiny we will share. Let's read Tibetan aloud together for a little while if you would like.
June 30 I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom gentle one as we weave our shared destiny together. We're up to Chapter 3 in the language book but let's pause for now ( I still need to review those prononciation rules a few times to understand them!) I'll probably be able to start carving our lotus blossums soon! I know, I said that last week. I'm sure you understand though. It's that time of year!
July 1 I've devotedly spun two more spans for you gentle one resting in our firm commitment to each other in our effort of the heart.
July 2 In trusting devotion I've spun two more spans for you gentle one resting in our firm commitment to each other as we weave our shared destiny. I took the lotus flower carving blocks out of the clamps. The wood pieces I attached are holding strong and are ready to hold up the blocks in the vise for carving. Bit by bit our effort grows each day!
July 3 I've devotedly spun two more spans for you gentle beautiful one! I'm going to transfer the thread to the multiflora rose cane tomorrow as the spindle is getting quite heavy. The studio needs some tidying up right now; while I like to think of it as a creative blast it's amazing how quickly chaos restores it's reign in here.
July 4 I've spun two more spans for us gentle beautiful patient one in quiet commitent to our shared destiny together and our effort of the heart. My fingers are bit clumsy after all the work in the Grove but they are used to spinning now!
July 5 I continue to spin for you gentle one and for the destiny that we are weaving together in our effort of the heart. I've created four more spans for your loom! I haven't gotten yet to putting the thread on the multiflora rose cane. Let's read some more from the Tibetan language book if you would like. My voice is a bit hoarse from being outside with all that grass pollen and I stumble a bit but I know you will understand. It might be good to skip between chapter 3 and later chapters which give common phrases because this grammar is tough going when you are just starting to learn the language.
July 6 I continue to spin for you gentle beautiful one and have created six more spans for your loom. Our prayer flag continues to fly as it has for 210 days now and we've been seeing together for 250 days! Let's read a bit more from the Tibetan language book if you would like. This is from chapter four and describes Tibetan greetings.
July 7 In quiet trusting patience I devotedly spin two more spans for you gentle one resting in our quiet firm commitment to each other in our effort of the heart. I hope you liked the poem. You may notice I called medlar tree your medlar tree. We two share medlar and what it represents as well of course! I've noticed my math is off on time passing so I fixed the days a bit.Perhaps you noticed this already. In any case, that warm and bright future day is getting closer!
July 8 In quiet patience I devotedly spin two more spans for you gentle beautiful one. I need to do more research on Tibetan Geography. I'm thinking it might be good to share some of the readings I find rather than just read from books. It's tough to get to everything though as I'm sure you understand. I haven't forgotten that I promised to share with you some drawings either and all those pictures of California. At this rate you'll be helping me to put them on the website!
July 9 In quiet trusting patience I devotedly spin two more spans for you gentle beautiful one. These are the days of great power for us as you and I, two as one continue on through the time when it is hard to see. Our commitment to each other and our sacrifice will help us later and our small quiet effort of the heart grows a little each day! Let's read a little from the Tibetan language book tomorrow if you would like.I want to read poetry and of the day but with these files being as big as they are I've been just sticking to working on our future work together for now.
July 10 In quiet devotion in our firm commitment to each other and our shared destiny, I've spun two more spans for us gentle beautiful one! I've worked a bit more on our lotus blossoms, our symbols of we two souls firmly ourselves, yet seeing as one with one shared heart and mind. As it turns out I still have to tinker with the recording software and it's getting late. I thought instead we could listen to our spinning song together.
July 11 In quiet trusting patience I devotedly spin two more spans for you gentle beautiful one in firm commitment to you and I and our real and lasting effort of the heart. There are many spans now for your loom!
July 12 I devotedly spin four more spans for you gentle beautiful one as we continue on as always. Our commitment to each other is a great source of strength and hope to me as our effort of the heart grows bit by bit each day. It's been 113 days since you and I came to the Spring gentle beautiful one! Which should help inspire us as we continue on to the second section of chapter 3 reading of Tibetan grammar.
July 13 In quiet devotion to our firm commitment I spin seven more spans for you slight gentle one. It's one of our lucky days!
Let's read a bit more from the Tibetan language book! I'm actually going to have to study these sections a while as it will take a bit to learn them!
July 14 In firm commitment to you and I and our effort of the heart I devotedly spin two more spans for you gentle determined bright one. A hurai! ( that's how it's actually spelled in Buryat as it turns out). I carved a bit more on our lotus blossoms and will study a bit more from the Tibetan language book.
July 15 I devotedly spin two more spans for you beautiful gentle one in firm commitment. Do not be concerned; all patiently waits. A hurai! I managed to carve a bit more on our lotus blossoms in spite of the auto troubles. I discovered some mistakes from last Friday and fixed them. Well, you can help me with these things in the future!
July 16 I devotedly spin 2 more spans in commitment to our shared destiny gentle beautiful one as we firmly continue on. I've done a bit more on carving on our lotus blossoms. Each day our gentle effort of the heart quietly grows. With the auto troubles I haven't been able to look at the language book yesterday and today but I'm going to try to study more over the weekend.
July 17 In quiet devotion I spin 2 more spans for you gentle beautiful one! I carved a bit more on our lotus blossoms so things continue to progress.
July 18 In full commitment I continue to spin for you gentle beautiful one two more spans as we quietly wait for the day when we can begin our great endeavor together. In the meantime I work through things in the Grove, in the studio and on the website as best I can as our small personal universal effort of the heart firmly continues.
July 19 In quiet devotion to our firm commitment to a shared destiny with each other I spin four more spans for you slight gentle beautiful one. I've carved a little more on the lotus blossoms. Let's read a bit more aloud from the Tibetan language book if you would like.
July 20 I've spun six more spans for you gentle beautiful one.Let's read a bit more from the Tibetan language book!
July 21 In quiet devotion in our firm commitment to each other and our weaving of a shared destiny, I've spun two more spans for us gentle beautiful patient one! I hope you liked the poem. I was trying to portray our optimism and patient endurance and of course bring you that amazing picture I took over the weekend. I've done a bit more on our lotus blossoms and am starting to, in a simple way, figure out how to stylize them into wood. It's coming along rather well!
July 22 In patient devotion gentle beautiful one I have spun two more spans for your loom and our shared destiny. My auto still isn't fixed so I'm going to be stuck driving Mom's car still. But at least the phone line works! I noticed that the Dalai Lama indicates the color yellow is used to indicate monastacism. This isn't our meaning for yellow of course! In Tibet too, yellow also has another meaning and represents one of the elements ( I can't remember which at the moment). I'm playing Spirit Wind right now and thinking of the events of the last couple of days. The seeming difficulties I working against now (and you with me of course since we are two as one!) simply reinforced that regardless of hardships that face us you and I will always be enough to persist and prevail. With the usual spiritual help of course! We can read a bit more from the Tibetan language book if you would like. Let's skip to chapter 5 to learn some common Tibetan words.
July 23 I've spun two more spans for you gentle beautiful one in quiet commitment to our shared destiny. It's been two months already since I began spinning for you. We've gotten much work done in that time since we've started learning Tibetan together, created some music and gotten quite far sculpting the lotus blossoms. I think I've spun at least 160 spans of thread for your loom and probably even more! I wrapped some of it around a ruler and discovered that, at the thickness I'm spinning it, it comes to about 32 threads to the inch. A span for me is about 2 feet eight inches so I figure we have enough for at least eight prayer flags already. So, in these days when it is hard to see and despite the difficulties in our path our effort of the heart grows steadily!
July 24 I've spun two more spans for your loom gentle beautiful one in full commitment to you and to our small quiet gentle effort of the heart. I haven't been able to work on our lotus blossoms tonight but I did take a photograph of them which I will bring to you soon so you can see how they are coming along! My auto is still needing work so I continue to drive Mom's car.
Ugh! Anyway, you needn't worry about anything as all patiently waits for you. We can read more from the Tibetan language book over the weekend. Hopefully you are able to download the files. I'll try to write which pages I'm reading so even if you can't you will know what section it is I'm on.
July 25 I've spun two more spans for your loom and our commitment to a shared destiny gentle beautiful one! Our lotus blooms will look stunning when we've finished gilding them! This has been another tough week but one of great power for us.
July 26 I've spun four more spans for your loom gentle beautiful one, she who makes my effort real! Our prayer flag has been flying for 230 days now, a bit over eight months. We've been seeing together for nine months (270 days) slight gentle one and our effort grows in quiet strength even through the hard weeks like this one.
July 27 In firm devoted commitment through the quiet time I've spun six more spans for you gentle beautiful one and for our weaving a shared destiny. Let's read more from the Tibetan Language book if you would like. This is from chapter three and goes from the top of page 25 with the irregular verbs to the top of page 27.
July 28 I've spun two more spans for you gentle beautiful one in firm devoted commitment to you and our effort of the heart. We continue through this quiet time apart of course, however long it may be and with lots of things to do our quiet rest will go quickly! I notice I made another mistake on the date of the Sunday poem of a couple of weeks back. Just a template error. We continue on gentle one, despite my stumblings so you needn't be concerned!
July 29 Two more spans have I devotedly spun for your loom gentle beautiful one in firm commitment to our shared destiny . Our effort of the heart is coming along well and we are solidly into our second year of course! I need to study the Tibetan more carefully before reading much more ( perhaps you are learning this more quickly than I!) but its going rather well as we continue through this quiet patient time apart. I haven't found the book Secrets of the Soil so I'm going to buy a copy soon so we can read it together along with the dowsing book I mentioned. I think you will like these as they are both very much about spiritual attunement with the natural world to create sustenance and harmony. I've taken a picture (so you can see how much thread we have!) which I will bring to us soon.
July 30 I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom determined beautiful one as we weave our shared destiny in firm commitment to each other. We quietly continue through this quiet patient time apart and I will share experiences here as much as I can in the meantime. I realize it has been a long time since I was able to do one of those picture rounds for you ; I haven't been able to since the trip to California back in April! I would have liked this for many of the poems I wrote for you since gentle one but the time has moved so swiftly! At this rate, you will be helping me to illustrate them ( and swiftly fixing those little mistakes I invaribly make and if you would like, adding your own poems)!
July 31 Two more spans have I spun for your loom slight gentle beautiful one in firm commitment to our shared destiny and our effort of the heart! Gentle and Determined we will remain we, beautiful one through this quiet patient time apart and ever after.
![]() August 1 I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom gentle beautiful one in firm commitment to our shared future together. The last two weeks have been tough but ones of great power for us of course. I remain firmly myself as I know you remain firmly yourself. Every day is another day closer to our warm and bright future day. Of course, we are making lots of progress in the meanwhile!
August 2 In firm commitment to you and our shared destiny together I've spun four more spans for your loom gentle beautiful one! I haven't worked on our lotus blossoms today but I got a lot done on them yesterday! I'll show you the additions to a Windhorse project here so you can look at them with me before I put them on the site.
August 3 I've devotedly spun six more spans for you gentle beautiful one in firm commitment to you and our effort of the heart.
With all the website work I haven't had the time yet to study much Tibetan. I've created another spinning song for you from another of our poems though which I will bring to us when I've gotten it ready. It's been four months and thirteen days since our coming to the Spring gentle one and our prayer flag flies through this stormy patient time apart as it has for 238 days now!
August 4 In quiet devotion I've spun two more spans for you gentle beautiful one in firm commitment to our shared destiny together. You'll notice that the files are now going on our infosite! I've tried to keep the files smaller and easier to download . The 24 kbyte/sec file is about as small as I can make them before they start to sound like a transmission from a comlink and if I make them between two and three minutes they generally are under a megabyte if I use the .mp3 format ( I figured you might know about this nuts and bolts stuff but thought I'd mention it anyway. You may know of ways to improve this!) Let's read a bit more if you would like. This is chapter three again with the postpositions on p. 27 beginning with "for" and going to the section on the formation of questions.
August 5 In firm commitment to you and our effort of the heart I've devotedly spun two more spans for you gentle beautiful one! It's been a month already since I began carving so I thought you would like to see how our lotus blossoms are rising up. A hurai!
![]() August 6 I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom gentle beautiful one in quiet commitment to our shared destiny together. I thought you might like to see how we two are coming along. There's still a lot of carving but at least you can see how things are going. So even on these quiet patient days apart our effort is growing a little each day!
![]() August 7 In strong firm commitment I've devotedly spun two more spans for you gentle beautiful one! I'm going to start putting the pictures of the carving into the pages over the weekend and show it to you from here. I got in late from the Grove so I wasn't able to do as much in the studio as I wanted to but things are going well gentle patient one!
August 8 In firm undeceived commitment to you gentle beautiful patient one I've spun two more spans. I've carved a bit more on our lotus blossoms. I'm going to study some more tonight from our Tibetan language book. Even in these quiet patient days when we must abide apart our effort grows a little each day. All patiently waits, so you needn't be concerned gentle one!
August 9 I've devotedly spun four more spans for your loom gentle beautiful one in firm commitment to you and our shared destiny together! Let's read a bit more from chapter three if you would like. It's goes from just after the question "do you have tea" up to the section on Yes or No answers.
August 10 In quiet devotion I've spun six more spans for you gentle patient beautiful one in firm commitment to you and our effort of the heart. I'm still working on the prayer flag page so I'm not quite ready to show you it yet.
August 11 In devoted patience I've spun two more spans for you gentle beautiful one in firm commitment to you and our shared destiny as we continue through the time when it is hard to see.
August 12 In firm commitment to you I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom gentle beautiful one and our effort of the heart together. Our lotus blossoms are coming along really well; they are getting the graceful flow I was trying to give them. As it turned out I didn't get any studying done in our Tibetan language book yesterday. I'm going to study more later in the week or over the weekend. Every day our effort grows as we, two as one, continue through this quiet patient time apart.
August 13 In firm commitment to you slight gentle beautiful swift one I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom! I carved a bit more on our lotus blossoms and am going to study a bit more from our Tibetan language book. I wanted to record the night sounds for you because they are really awesome right now but the recording software was giving me problems as it often does. It's still another of our good luck days though!
August 14 I've spun two more spans for you gentle patient beautiful on in firm commitment to you and our effort of
the heart as we continue through this quiet patient time apart.
August 15 In firm commitment to you gentle patient beautiful one and our shared destiny I've spun two more spans for your loom. I've carved a bit more on our lotus blossoms and brought us an icon that I wanted to create yesterday. When you would like you can click on it and we'll go straight to the first page of our infosite to remind you of our future together that we two alone chose beautiful one!
August 16 I've devotedly spun four more spans for your loom in firm commitment to you gentle beautiful one. I continue to make progress on our lotus blossoms and I will work on the prayer flag pages tonight. The sound recording software is now working well again and I've done some work with it with good success. Each day our effort grows and our warm and bright future day is now almost another week closer!
August 17 In firm commitment I've devotedly spun six more spans for your loom and our shared destiny gentle beautiful one. I've brought us the spinning song I promised! I've used the mp3 format which doesn't sound quite as good as the .wav format but it's small enough for you to be able to download it.
I've created the prayer flag pages for you to look at before I link them to the site.
Let's read a bit more from the Tibetan language book now that I have the recording software working!
August 18 In firm commitment to you gentle beautiful one I've spun two more spans for your loom as we create our shared destiny together. I've done a bit more on our lotus blossoms. I hope you like the pages. I may get to add a bit more to them for you to look at before I put them up but I'm a bit computer weary now after yesterday's long stint!
August 19 I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom gentle beautiful one as we quietly continue in full commitment through this patient time apart. I've added yet another picture of the lotus blossoms to the pages for you to look at if you would like. I'll put the pages up tomorrow. I'm studying a bit of Tibetan each day. Each day our effort of the heart grows!
August 20 In firm commitment to you gentle beautiful swift patient one I've spun two more spans for your loom and our shared destiny . A hurai! It was a much brighter day today. I put our prayer flag pages up as soon as I got home. The link is now http://www.alanloreficeandcompany.org/id408.htm , just the way this publishing utility does things! I've put our yarrow icon here even though it's a bit late to read from our Tibetan language book. We can read from it later in the week.
![]() August 21 I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom gentle beautiful patient one in firm commitment to you and our shared future together. I looked up the ordering information for the gilding today. I carved a bit more on our lotus blossoms of course and I'm going to study more from our Tibetan language book tonight. Each day our effort grows!
August 22 In firm commitment to you gentle beautiful swift patient one I've devotedly spun two more spans for your loom and our shared future together. Another month has passed since we two came to the Spring and our warm and bright future day is another week closer. A hurai!
![]() I continue spinning for you of course! Please click here.
