Through My Eyes
*
We're in our coracle heading to Drogon Puntsok Dargyeling and Vajrayogini's temple! I don't know what the river is called but we're travelling through the plains looking out at the fields where the rain retreat festival is held. I'm also not sure if Drogon and Dogon are the same word since the Drogon monastery is mentioned as being visible on the cliffs above the town of Zhiwu from the Ngamba la pass coming from Sershul . Anyway I'm guessing they are the same. The main monastery of the Sakyapa lineage, Sakya is mentioned in the Dalai Lama's book when he tells of the earth quake that was the omen of the arrival of the Chinese army, the PLA. He said as we remember that the earthquake was felt as far as Sakya a few hundred miles away from Lhassa. We haven't been travelling there yet. Sakya actually means 'pale earth' because there the ground there is a pale grey blue color. Monasteries of the Sakya lineage built throughout Tibet afterwards were consequently painted this color. The Sakya lineage accomplished the formidable task of creating peace with the invading Mongolian Khans or Qans which is incredible when we consider that their empire was one of the largest in human history and that their ferocity was legendary! The whole of Tibet was governed from Sakya for almost a hundred years, from 1268-1365 as a result. Drogon was originally of the Kadampa tradition, which is the one that Atisha brought to Tibet; it was later converted over to the Sakya lineage. There are a few temples here being restored. Tibetans are planning to create two story images of the Shakaymuni and Maitreya Buddhas along with Padmasambhava! There are lots of other images here too among them one of Tara of course! There's also a mani prayer wheel chapel and the Vajrayogini's temple. She is, as I mentioned in our poem, the Queen of the sky dancing Dakinis symbolizing the freedom of the enlightened mind. She frequently appears before practicioners who have temporarily gotten somehow caught up in their formal practices, garments etc to scold them and thus enable them to concentrate on the development of the compassionate mind. The Dakinis in general are wondrous for they only can be seen by those whose minds are prepared. There are many stories in which some individuals see beautiful Goddesses at a sumptuous feast with glorious dancing and celebration while others with them see only some mundane or even repulsive figures. Very shamanic! There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
