Through My Eyes

( We continue reading of the universe as seen in the Buryat tradition!)

"  I have known of Buryat shamans traveling as several animals in succession, such as a fox, then a squirrel, then a hawk, and so on, finally returning to human form upon reaching their destination. These transformations come naturally according to the individual requirements of the journey.
Because you merge with your shaman spirits during a journey you will experience the same distortions of time that occur while embodying the spirits. The journey may appear to take a long time, although the people watching your ceremony feel it lasts only a few minutes. This is perfectly normal. Perceptions of size and distance likewise become distorted when you are outside the physical body. Your body may seem gigantic, like a mountain, or it may seem microscopically small. Some of the unusual things you see may be the result of seeing form the perspective of being much larger or smaller than usual.
Because all journeys start from the center, distance is essentially meaningless. Buryat legends speak of shamans able to travel at the speed of lightening-this is how others perceive the idea of shamans being able to traverse any distance with a single step. The story that unfolds during your journey, the landmarks that you see, are part of the spirits' lesson to you and should be understood as being significant. Just as you learn to understand the symbolic meaning of dream images, you will also learn to understand the meanings of what you see on your journey. Shamans traditionally recite the sights and events of the journey  after returning; you may want to go the extra step and keep a record of your experiences so you can study them and learn the spirits' lessons. Although movement in journeys on one level is instantaneous, our interpreting it as a journey is a way of making rational and useful the tremendous amount of information that is revealed.."
(In the Buryat world the journey is a way to gain understandings!)  I promise to add more tomorrow...

( Tahshi Deleh, gentle beautiful one!  Kehrahng kusu debo yinpeh?  I limed the grapes and some of the native plants and then set to work bringing down all the equipment and bags. Altogether the Grove took 96 fifty pound bags of lime which comes to 4800 pounds. The bags when empty don't take up a lot of room so I was able to take everything down in one big load. Even jam packed,Mom's wagon floated across the swiftly moving stream with little difficulty which was something of a relief! There are a few bags left at the top to be brought down and a few more small things to be done but things are just about set in the Grove. With us working two as one it went quite well and we are ready for winter!  I'll add  our wildflowers and put this up so we can rest.
And so, as always we'll continue two as one on  to tomorrow
