Through My Eyes

With the Tibetan events in  NYC and work in the Grove I still haven't been able to work on the sculpture of Tara Drolma except as usual to continue to keep the clay moist. I thought we could watch another video by Yangchen Lhamo. Unfortunately, there is no Tibetan writing; it is all Chinese.
For some reason I am reminded of something I learned in a book called "China's Tibet? by Warren Smith Junior.  By the time the temples and places of learning in Tibet  were targeted for destruction in the cultural revolution they were already empty. The PLA had stripped hundreds of thousands of non precious metal religious statues and transported them by truck to foundries such as the one where the Jowo Buddha was found that was known to have obtained at least 630 tons of such sacred work for smelting. There were several other such giant foundries so the theft even of the statues made of non precious metals was enormous. The fate of the innumerable precious metal articles and sculpture is unknown but much of it was used to repay debts that China owed to the U.S.S.R. Essentially under the guise of redistributing wealth from the wealthy to the poor China was simply robbing it from Tibetans and taking it back to China. The pattern is repeated with Tibet's natural resources; the occupation of Tibet is marked by insatiable greed. So when I see videos presented like this I see more an attempt of Chinese propagandists to mask this greed under the guise of harmony- or an attempt to make profit from yet another Tibetan legacy
from Tibetans who have no choice but to tolerate it in order to bring their people some small benefit. There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
