Through My Eyes
*
With Tibetan events in NYC and work in the Grove I haven't yet been able to work on the sculpture of Tara Drolma except to continue to keep the clay moist. I thought we could watch a short video of Sonam Wangmo singing in Kham. We can see a banner behind her; I don't know where it depicts. I am reminded though of a picture of Lhasa from the air which I found startling and rather painful. Modern buildings are everywhere and it retains little of the original character of Lhasa as it once was. The buildings look strange and alien upon the landscape- as imposed upon it as the Chinese rule has been upon
the Tibetan people.
Even the Chinese people visiting Tibet themselves notice the catastrophic nature of the change as a result of the occupation. As Ms Zhu Rui, a Chinese writer, said in an interview with The Epoch Times: "The ancient Tibetan buildings are part of Tibetan culture, and have inestimable values in architecture, history, culture, and aesthetics. In the past, there were over 500 ancient buildings around Barkhor Street in Lhasa. But only 93 remained when I visited in 1997, the majority of them were demolished by the communist regime."
The theft of Tibet from Tibetans has resulted in a loss for all the world as we know well. There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
