Through My Eyes
*
I haven't yet had time to work on the sculpture of Tara Drolma. I thought I'd bring us a picture of our outreach events at Union Square NYC! The whole place had been turned into a Christmas shopping village so there were lots of people there! This picture was actually taken with my cell phone so it's a bit smaller.
![]() A lot of people were going by and looking so it was rather effective. It also seemed an appropriate way to celebrate the holidays. Christmas is about the birth of one who stood for spiritual truth and nonviolence in a land occupied by the one of the most powerful military nations on earth. Eventually Rome faded into history- but the truth remained as it always does.
I didn't though; the next time I came the spot had been replaced by a big garbage can.
I was told I had to go outside because I would cause congestion so I moved to a location nearby. Fortunately it seemed to be almost as effective. I would have liked to continue but the big ice and snow storms kept me upstate for the next couple of weekends.
In general I have always been perplexed by the dilemma of whether to continue or not with a course of action when things seem less than ideal.What should one do when no one seems to be available to help, you don't feel particularly trusted or liked, you are competing with a garbage can for space-and the garbage can is winning? On one hand it is important to look to the world around you for the cues as to whether or not you are on the path you are meant to be on. On the other hand few things in life come easily in my experience; courage and persistence are called for if you want to bring something worthwhile into the world- or keep it from being destroyed. I'm kind of stuck on the second course of action; the harder it gets the harder I try. But sometimes I get a bit tired and I wonder. Discouragement is weakness though and you have to deal with it.
You cannot run away from weakness;
you must at some time fight it out or perish;
and if that be so, why not now and where you stand
Robert Louis Stevenson
And now as long as space endures,
As long as living beings are to be found,
until then may I too abide,
to dispel the misery of the world.
Shantideva in the Bodhicharyavatara
There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
