Through My Eyes
*
I haven't had the chance to work on the sculpture of Tara Drolma yet but I thought we could watch another video from Jigdo of a June 23 BBC news broadcast of a press visit to Lhasa.
The broadcast highlights the CCP's attempted manipulation of view the correspondents receive and the tremendous changes that have been imposed under the occupation that have been unchanged by the uprising in 2008. The impression left is one of gloom and the inevitability of CCP domination. But it also speaks of the unchanged devotion of to Tibetan Buddhism in the midst of it all.
For me, as I have said, the outcome was very different than what was and is seen in surface appearances. It is a standard practice of communist regimes to make a show of preserving the outer forms of a culture while actually stifling it's essential nature out of existence. In this they have completely failed in Tibet and the unique Tibetan nature has expressed itself in the midst of the worst oppression imaginable on a scale beyond the minds of the regime could understand.
And while it is true that military force has suppressed the protests in Tibet it is equally true that Tibetans bore the full weight of the most forceful military crackdown the CCP authorities could deliver- and were not broken. All the force the CCP could bring to bear in Tibet last year was withstood by the will of the Tibetan people. It unnerves the CCP even now. The CCP's efforts to rewrite what happened have a certain element of fear about them for the situation has permanently shifted-and they are very aware of it.
There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
