Through My Eyes

We're resting  at the Jangchub Chokhorling of the Litang Chode!  We've met a few more deities along with the many that we know!  This includes Marici Ozerchenma Goddess of the dawn who actually has been protecting us since she is also the Goddess that along with Tara protects travellers! She actually is depicted as having three heads one of which is that of a sow and drives a chariot pulled by pigs. Perhaps there is a connection between her awesome power and the Abbess of Samding!  I haven't yet found anything about  Sertri yet. We've noticed that often a figure such as the Buddha Shakyamuni or Tsongkapha is depicted a thousand times or more. I'm not sure of this but I think it may have to do with a multiplication of the shamanic power in the same manner as a mantra repeated again and again. As we already know the deities are not actually to be worshipped but actually to be considered as beings who can be asked for aid in spiritual practice. In Tibet they often manifest themselves through oracles but in some cases even through mysterious appearances.  The Dalai Lama's escape into exile was certainly presided over by the deities although he places little emphasis on this except to mention the role of the Nechung oracle. It was noted that during the journey the Dalai Lama's pony began to tire. Seemingly out of nowhere an old man appeared before the party  indicating that he thought that his Holiness might have need of a mount. He offered his own a pure white horse. When asked his name, he simply said 'Tashi Norbu'  or auspicious jewel. Having made his offering he disappeared and has never been heard of since. A shamanic manifestation! There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
