Through My Eyes
*
We're resting on the ridge above Zangang! We've actually headed about 30 km about 18 miles south of Chaktreng on our way over the mountain pass and now are on the descent to Zangang on our way to Zangme Derong. I haven't put it into the drawing yet ; it's along the Ding chu to the south. I thought I'd mention a bit more about those incredibly tough winters of the Chuzi Gangdruk in the poem again. Actually, blizzards can be terrible both there and in the Chang Tang. In recent times 60,000 nomads and their herds were lost in a blizzard in the Chang Tang. But the Tibetan people resilient and resourceful continue on! Picnicking remains a favorite Tibetan pastime! We may have read of this in the Dalai Lama's book although I don't remember where I read of this. There are actually some pictures of the Dalai Lama that were taken at a picnic on his way back from his visit to Peking in the 1950's. Anyway I thought we could spend some time picnicking looking out over the great rocky ridge that descends to Zangang. There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
