Through My Eyes

We're resting along the Ding chu gazing upon the incredible assemblage of chortens here! We've learned of the structure and symbology of the chortens or  stupas before but I thought I'd mention it in the poem. Our Footprint Tibet handbook mentions mani stone stupas and  a style  called the sog-shin. As near as I can tell the sog shin has a columnar shape. It must be incredible to see this many of them here in any case!  After that it's on to Derong Zangme by climbing over a  mountain of slate which must be tricky!  It's actually  on both sides of the river and has three bridges to connect between the two halves. There's a place called the Tashi Tsongkhang where Tibetan artifacts are sold and an open market. I'm not sure what the artifacts are. I know Tibetans are quite protective of their art especially since in one case an entire collection of statuary was stolen from a monastery and sold on the international market. I don't remember the particulars or where I read this but it was a terrible blow to Tibetans. Our Footprint Tibet handbook indicates there's also a Tibetan guesthouse here! We can stay there before heading to the valley of the Yangtze Dri Chu where most of the monasteries of the area are located. There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
