Through My Eyes
*
We're in our coracle in Lake Tsonak! Our Footprint Tibet handbook describes it as a fabled lake; there must be many stories associated with it. I haven't yet been able to find any though. Actually, this reminds me that we haven't looked at the forums together. We'll get to this soon. This general area seems to be a transition area from the Chang Tang; the climate here is very harsh although the range in temperature seems rather small. It's described as being 10 degrees Celsius in the summer about 50 degrees Fahrenheit and -10 Celsius or 14 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. The Tsakya Tsangpo flows from a point in the Dangla mountains near the coal mines all the way to Lake Serling of the Chang Tang. Draknak, which is on the way from the Da chu to Dangla pass over the Dangla mountains to the Dri chu, the Yangtze river sits at an elevation of 4600 metres or about 15000 feet. Not far from the pass are coal mines. The Dangla mountains are a source many minerals among them iron ore, soapstone and asbestos. Perhaps the material of shamanic mirrors comes from here! Anyway, the Tibetans living by Draknak, like those near Nakchu are nomads surviving by herding; they also collect salt and mine coal. I haven't yet learned how those beautiful huge applique tents are made. It must be a similar technique to that of painting on cloth for the tangkas, the large painted scroll banners. I doubt they have thousands of pearls attached to them though! There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
