Through My Eyes
*
We're in Ngari on the way to Khyunglung! The Sutlej as in our poem is flowing between the Himalayas to the South and the Gangtise Mountains to the North. The Gangtise mountains are quite high just as is the Gephel Utse ridge above Lhassa! Our Footprint Tibet handbook describes the travel to Tithapuri and the Sutlej as quite rugged as there are a couple of steep passes through the Gangtise before crossing the Sutlej. Khyunglung is a small town named after the valley it sits in. I've marked the valley with those two wavy lines. It is part of that system of steep canyons that cuts perpendicular to the Sutlej. The canyons are the result of water running down those very high mountain ranges on either side! From the town of Khyunglung it's a bit of a trip across the valley on the south bank of the Sutlej and then a crossing on a small suspension bridge to the cave city. It precedes Buddhism and even the Bon faith which was around several thousand years prior! I've marked it with a white spot to make it easier to see on the drawing. It's getting a bit late again gentle beautiful one so I'll put this up for us to look over. I still haven't added more notes to the Lhassa section but I know you understand. We're actually now almost two weeks closer to our warm and bright future day than when I last looked!
