Through My Eyes

Thursday  January 2

Here we are on a brighter day ( I thought you'd like this more for  the usual reason!). And here's a  medlar tree that you've been checking on ( I was curious and came over to join you). Medlars are very old .  No one knows when they were first discovered.   Perhaps once long ago a farmer was bringing her/his goats home and noticed they were all gathered around a  tree on the edge of the woods.  Or perhaps they were just standing quietly in front of  the little tree just as we are now, wondering what the fruits were and if they would provide sustenance.  And in the silence, plant and human spirit met and the farmer just knew to put a few of those little fruits into her/his pack, bring them back to the barnyard and throw them into a pile of straw for a few weeks ( till they were almost rotten , a process called bletting). The result was a custard like dessert that made the medlar as popular in ancient Europe as apples are today.  Shakespeare probably ate them while he wrote his sonnets, so they are very poetical too!

Plants do have a consciousness, and I believe I have always known this ( as you may well have also).  To understand a plant, a shaman healer will generally commune with the spirit or spirits of the plant to find out what it's uses are.  So, we are meeting a friend , and in mutual respect will sustain one another.  We can learn of all this later.  In the meantime, you've noticed the fence has been disturbed a bit so, if you would like to reach into your pack for some cable ties and give me a few I'll  fix the fencing around one while you work on the other ( there are two of them)!   Brr...the wind is blowing, the air is damp and our fingers are freezing!  Let's  finish up and get back inside to work on the Windhorse project!

I promise to add more tomorrow...
