( We read together of more musical instruments and begin reading of some magical weapons )

"The symbolism of the horse-headed fiddle and tobshuur is apparent. The adornment of these instruments with horse and bird heads represents their becoming magical steeds for the shaman when he uses them in singing uliger or hoomei.

The Jew's harp (hel huur) is a popular shamanic instrument throughout Mongolia and Siberia. In Russia it is considered equal to the drum as the classic shamanic instrument. Some Jew's harps are made in the shape of a bird, usually a swan, again symbolizing the animal as a shamanic ount. Jew's harps, like the shaman costume, are usually decorated with "snake" tassels, colorful ribbons, and sometimes jingle cones. As with hoomei, the playing of the Jew's harp sets up a vibration in the head and throat that helps induce an altered state of consciousness. I watched my Mongolian teacher Byambadorj zaarin use the Jew's harp several times in healing. He would play it , sing shamanic invocations, and then gently slap the patient's body with the tassels hanging from the instrument.

A shaman usually possesses a traditional knife or sword, called the boogiin helme ("shaman sword"), which has many

ritual uses. The most straightforward is that of menacing enemies and hostile spirits during a ritual. When the sword is drawn, its physical size is not important: the shaman's power upon merging with that of the spirits becomes as large and powerful as it needs to be for it's ritual use( in the spirit world). Some shamans use the sword as they would the staff, as a steed for shamanic journeying. The shaman focuses on the sword in order to induce the state of mind needed for journeying and merging with the spirits."

( Tahshi, gentle beautiful one! My auto is working now. I hope you liked the poem. Since every day this week was the same I created a "resting reflection" poem for you today. I haven't done much; it's been very hot and muggy here. I'll add our wildflowers so we can visit them again.

And so, as always we'll continue two as one on to tomorrow

my one gentle beautiful patient dream bright

long dark mane in sunlight

so for now I bid goodnight...Simjah Nahngo! )
