Through My Eyes
*
We're in our coracle on the Jyeku river heading to to the Jyekundo Dondrubling and the mani wheel chapel of Dondrubling Dungkhor! The Dondrubling Dunghkor is actually fairly new since it was built in 1983. The mantras inside the wheel though have been in existence for at least thousand years. There are also entire sutras or wisdom texts with very long names like Bhad racarya prani dhana raja. It must be incredible to be in the presence of such energy! Jyekundo town is also a fascinating place. The general vicinity was part of Nangchen another kingdom like Derge which existed for centuries before coming under the partial control of the Kokonor Muslims. I believe the warlord who the Dalai Lama describes as preventing his travel to Lhasa as the newly recognized Dalai Lama was of this group. Anyway, Jyekundo became a prominent trading center because of it's position between Ziling and Lhassa with Tibetans bringing hides, furs, wool and medicines in exchange for tea, cloth, sugar, metalware and other such things. The monastery was consecrated by Drogon Chogyel Phakpa who as we know well was the preceptor for Qublai Qan. He apparently made many journeys to and from Tibet, Mongolia and China and must have had tremendous endurance! Actually, Tibetans are generally very strong; there are accounts of them carrying 75 pound packs for many miles over high mountain passes of nearly 20,000 feet without terrible difficulty. There's a lot more to add but as usual two as one we'll add to the notes later beautiful one!
